One minute we can feel the spring weather approaching, the minute it’s below freezing. Many have decided to leave their thermostats set in one place and to use a space heater when it gets too cold in their homes. As fire damages specialists we’ve decided to provide you with a few space heater safety tips.
When taking naps or laying on the couch make sure you’re keeping your space heater at least 3 feet away from anything flammable.
When you go to purchase a space heater try to get one with overheat protection that way it can self shut down especially in the event it tips over.
Never block a walkway or exit with your space heater especially if you have kids or pets.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, two in five deaths in space heater fires involve electric space heaters.
