Smoke alarms are to keep you alive!

When there is a fire, smoke spreads fast. Working smoke alarms give you an early warning so you can get outside quickly. With the increasing usage of space heaters and extension cords during this time of the year, we want to give you a few tips to keep you safe.
- Did you know larger homes require more smoke alarms?
- Replace all smoke alarms when they are 10 years old
- Test all smoke alarms at least once a month. Press the test button to be sure the alarm is working.
- It is best to use interconnected smoke alarms. When one smoke alarm sounds they all sound.
- Have an escape plan
- Your ability to get out of your house during a fire depends on advance warning from smoke alarms and advance planning.
- Walkthrough your home and look for two ways out of every room (escape planning)
- Plan an outside meeting place where everyone will meet once they have escaped. A good meeting place is something permanent, like a tree, light pole, or mailbox a safe distance in front of the home.
